Built like it matters
Most small-business sites are a theme, a page builder, and forty plugins holding hands. We hand-code ours: lean pages that load fast, structured so search engines understand exactly what you do and where you do it. When WordPress is genuinely the right fit, content-heavy sites, client-edited pages, we build it properly and keep it maintained.
The plugin count matters more than it sounds. Every one is code somebody else maintains, on their schedule, with their security record, and a site with forty of them has forty ways to break on a morning you are busy. Fewer moving parts is the whole strategy, and it is why sites we build tend to need attention in years rather than weeks.
Speed is the other half, and it is not a score in a testing tool. It is whether the page has appeared by the time somebody standing outside your competitor’s shop has decided to give up. A page carrying two megabytes of framework loses that race on a phone with two bars, which is where most people are when they search for a local trade.

Web work is the other service where the client does not have to be nearby, and plenty of it is not. What being here does change is the local search half of the job. Ranking for a trade plus a town is a different problem from ranking nationally, and knowing that Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge are three cities people search separately, that Guelph is a different region entirely, and that nobody outside the area types Waterloo Region into a search box, is the sort of thing that only comes from working here.
